We are very excited because today we are getting our first Organics Live organic fruit and vegetables box delivered to our home. I decided to look up some baby food recipes that will use some of the contents of our box. I was looking for recipes that are unique, have lots of variety, and are really healthy.
I’ve done a lot of research into baby food recipe books and I decided not to buy one because of a few things. Most of the books I have found use recipes that include fruit juice – babies don’t need that extra sugar. I also don’t like how most baby cookbooks include the overly simple recipes like pears mixed with water – I can figure that out on my own. This is a controversial topic but I also do not want recipes that include a lot of grains and starches. Therefore, I looked around online and compiled a bunch of recipes that I believe will work great for us and I can use them with our Organics Live boxes. Below are the recipes that I found for this box in particular.
Using 2 bunches of kale, remove the leaves and wash well. Add the leaves to boiling water and cook for 5 minutes. Drain reserving about a 1/2 cup of the liquid. Add the kale to the blender and about 1/4- 1/2 cup of the reserved liquid. Puree until smooth. Add kale puree to a baby freezer tray (ice cube tray works too) and cover. Freeze in for 2 hours and then remove cubes and store in a freezer safe container properly labeled.
Combine all ingredients until well blended
Mash the cooked sweet potato.
Either puree or finely chop the mango and stir into the sweet potato, along with a good pinch of cinnamon.
At this point, we like to add coconut milk – it gives a wonderful flavour! But it’s not essential if you don’t have any to hand.
Serve warm or cold.
Step 1: Combine all foods (steam peach together if need be) and mash or puree if needed.
Combine steamed broccoli with kiwi fruit and spinach. Puree until desired consistency. Add reserved liquid to thin out the puree if needed.
I am so excited to try these recipes for my little munchkin. I will keep you updated on how he likes them. Give these a try and comment on whether or not you liked them. If you have any recipe suggestions let us know!
