Every single time I meet with someone for a consultation, I always get asked the same question: “Do I have enough space in my home to workout?”. Most people do not think about having a designated workout space when buying their home and when the time comes to workout, they are stumped as to where to do it. The good news is, you are able to get a full body workout in a space as small as 5 feet by 5 feet.
“You will be amazed at how much you can accomplish with limited means.”
Why bother creating a space in your home for working out if you can just go to the gym or go outside? Although both options are a good alternative, they may not fit your lifestyle. An extremely large amount of people pay for a monthly gym membership and never go. Usually it’s because of laziness but some people don’t like going to the gym because they are intimidated by the other gym goers, they don’t like waiting for machines, or they can’t fit the travel time into their busy schedules. As for working out outside, if you live in Canada like me, you will have no place to go in the winter. You might also have allergies that affect how well you breathe during your exercise.
A home gym is great because you can work out at all hours of the day, no travel time required. You can make the space entirely your own and focus on what motivates you. It is way less expensive than a monthly gym membership and you will have everything you need for an effective workout.
Who is your biggest inspiration? Put a poster of them on your wall to remind yourself of where you want to be.
Put a quote or some motivational words on the wall in your workout area. You will motivate yourself to keep going and to work harder.
“Be stronger than your strongest excuse.”
“When you feel like quitting, think about why you started.”
Here are examples of some great motivational words: strength, aim high, inspire, commitment, motivation, change, run, focus, results.
Having the right colours in your workout space will make a world of difference when it comes to feeling motivated for your workout. Below are some great colours to use to either pump you up or calm you down based on what you want to get out of your workout. Paint the whole room with one of these inspiring colours or use them for a single accent wall, or home decor accents around the room.
Orange (Our favourite colour) – If you want to feel optimistic, have more physical confidence, think competitively and feel independent – this is the colour for your space.
Gold – If you want to be reminded of success, passion, and your self-worth while working out in an optimistic, positive, and masculine space – this is the colour for you.
Red – Who doesn’t want to be energized with the feeling of taking action, and performing at full speed? This colour is also attention-getting, and makes you feel assertive and confident.
Green – Balance, growth, self reliance, renewal and restoration – what perfect descriptive words for the space you want to use for your yoga and meditation.
Turquoise – Do you want a space that maximizes your clarity of thought, balance, harmony, and calmness while increasing your creativity, compassion, healing, and self-sufficiency? If you do, this is the colour for you.
Silver – This colour allows maximum reflection and feminine power, while giving you balancing, calming, and soothing feelings.
